A Long Way Gone
I found Ishmael to be beyond inspirational. His wit and sense of humor just proves his resilience to overcome the past. His ability to forgive not only others, but himself, is truly remarkable. Being in that situation, I could only imagine the strain and the images it left in his mind to have forever. Like I stated earlier, his sense of humor and ability to forgive were two of the qualities I noticed that were the most profound. Even though he was "still good" at rapping, he wouldn't perform some for us, which is something I would've loved to have seen. But most importantly, in my eyes, was his ability to forgive those who took his life away. He saw the importance of moving on and making himself a more whole, respectable person. And through forgiving himself, he finally gave himself the chance to move on and become the man he has always wanted to be, and to prove that he's not longer a soldier of war, but a soldier of life.

That is a very poetic way of looking at it. I agree that it was incredibly inspirational. He was able to have a sense of humor about something so terrible. It really made me feel like we could survive anything if we put our minds to it.
